Red Sox Beat Texas 6-2 to Complete Series Sweep

Drew Pomeranz strikes out a career high 11 batters in Red Sox win
Devin Marrero and Xander Bogaerts hit their first home runs of the season, Drew Pomeranz struck out a career-high 11 batters, and the Boston Red Sox completed a sweep of the Texas Rangers, winning 6-2 on Thursday night at Fenway Park. 

Boston improves to 25-21 and have won four straight games. 

Red Sox Offense Gets Going Early

After scoring 7 runs in the 7th inning on Wednesday night, the Red Sox offense carried over momentum in Thursday night’s game. 

Andrew Benintendi and Mitch Moreland each had RBI singles in the first inning to give the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead. 

Bogaerts then blasted a two-run home run in the third inning to increase Boston’s lead to 4-0. 

Texas cut Boston’s lead to two, 4-2, with a run in the sixth inning, before Marrero hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning to give the Red Sox a 6-2 lead. 

Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel came on in the 9th and struck out three straight batters after giving up a lead off walk to seal the Red Sox win. 

Next up 

The Red Sox return to action on Friday, May 26 when they begin a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. Friday’s first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. 

The pitching matchup is Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez against Seattle’s Yovani Gallardo.
