“This is an exciting day for all sports fans across North America. The FIFA World Cup™ is one of the greatest sporting events in the world and those of us in Boston are thrilled the United Bid of Canada, Mexico, and the United States has been selected to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup™.

I think those of us in soccer today would credit the ongoing influence hosting the 1994 FIFA World Cup™ had on the sport in the United States. Boston was fortunate to host several matches for the 1994 FIFA World Cup and we witnessed firsthand fans across New England come together around soccer in a way we had never seen before. The 1994 World Cup served as a springboard for Major League Soccer and our own New England Revolution. The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ will only continue to elevate the sport to new levels and we’re excited about this remarkable opportunity to strengthen the soccer culture in New England as well as across North America.

It’s been an incredible privilege for Gillette Stadium to be involved with the bid and I want to thank everyone involved in the process: Robert Kraft for his work at a global level as Honorary Chairman of the United Bid; Mayor Marty Walsh and the City of Boston; Governor Charlie Baker and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Massport, Pat Moscaritolo and the Great Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau for all of their support showcasing Boston for the bid; United Bid Co-Chairs Steven Reed, Decio de Maria, and Carlos Cordiero as well as John Kristick and the entire United Bid team.

We are thrilled about the opportunity to bring the highest level of soccer to Gillette Stadium and I believe Boston has a great chance of ultimately hosting matches. We have a tremendous history of sports in Boston, particularly in regards to soccer. Since 1994, sports fans have united with great passion here for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ in 2003, elite tournaments like Copa América Centenario and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers, and more. While it’s eight years away, the process of hosting the FIFA World Cup™ in Boston begins now.”
