Sky Chiefs vs Mavericks - A Battle of Top 10 Teams

The Providence Sky Chiefs (12 - 4) hit the road this weekend in what will be their biggest test of the season against the undefeated (19 - 0) Shreveport Mavericks. 

The Mavericks are the defending ABA Champions and hold an overall record of 79-0, helped by an 82 game home winning streak. 

“Matching up with the No. 1 ranked team in the ABA in Shreveport is huge for the Providence Sky Chiefs. We are definitely ready for the challenge," said Sky Chiefs head coach Kyle Ivey-Jones.

Dominating performance

Providence is coming off a dominating 133 - 73 win against the Brooklyn SkyRockets on January 31. The win launched the Sky Chiefs into the top 10 of the ABA power rankings, the highest they have been all season. 

Orion Outerbridge led the Sky Chiefs in that game with 22 points but it has been Shane DaRosa who has led the Sky Chiefs all season, shooting better then 50% from three-point land. 

Shreveport Mavericks

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are coming off a dominating performance of their own, beating the Jacksonville Giants 115 - 82 on the road. The Giants  entered that game as the number two team in the league. 

“We don’t really focus on any single players, but we have a depth of talent at every position. Josh Pace is a former ABA and Finals MVP that has stepped into a leadership role for us this season and also continues to provide outstanding play on the court. 

Our ‘Twin Towers’ of Jon Rogers and Brandon Davis are the best tandem of big men that are not in the NBA in my opinion. Rogers is having an MVP-type season, though his numbers may not indicate it. What he brings to the floor defensively can’t be measured in statistics. Former Finals MVP P.J. Couisnard brings a lot to the table on and off the court as well," said Mavericks coach Steve Tucker. 

Great oppurtunity ahead

The Sky Chiefs have won three straight games and are poised for what they hope will be a history making, and breaking, win. 

"The Providence Sky Chiefs are coming to Shreveport to play two great games. This is a great opportunity,” Ivey-Jones added.
