Spieth's 20 Points Not Enough as Brown's Comeback Falls Short at Columbia

Steven Spieth score 12 of his 20 points in the second half, but Brown’s comeback would come up short at Columbia as they would fall 83-78 on Saturday night in New York.

The loss drops Brown to 11-11 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League while Columbia improves to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in the Ivy League.

After trailing by 21 points, 56-35, in the second half Brown rallied to pull within four, 79-75, after Spieth converted two free throws with 1:55 to play in the game. 

However, a turnover by Spieth on Brown’s next possession led to a dunk by Columbia’s Lukas Meisner to give the Lions an 81-75 lead with 40 seconds to play. 

Spite would knock down a three with 23 seconds left to pull the Bears to within three, 81-78, but the Lions would convert their free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the win. 

Columbia shot 55% from the field and outscored Brown 34-22 in the paint. 

The Leaders 

Spieth’s 20 points came on 5 of 12 shooting from the field and 8 of 9 from the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds and 4 assists. 

Tavon Blackmon followed up with 11 points and 4 assists.
