Gorbea Announces Online Suite of Tools to Help RI Businesses

Nellie Gorbea announces online suite of tools to help RI businesses
Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea announced her new online suite of tools in an effort to make it easier for businesses to grow in Rhode Island.

The tools include the new Rhode Island Code of Regulations(RICR) and a revamped Department of state business Assistant.

“Rhode Island small businesses and entrepreneurs are the backbone of our economy. We must continue to do everything we can to support them and provide them with the resources necessary to start, maintain, and grow their businesses. With these new tools, we are focusing on a proactive, user-first approach to the applications and services we provide for Rhode Island businesses,” said Gorbea.

RICR

The new RICR is a web-based directory of state regulations made possible by legislation, sponsored by House Majority Leader Joseph Shekarchi and Senate Finance Committee Chairman William Conley, passed in 2016 requiring the modernization of the State Administrative Procedures Act.

The RICR contains tools and resources that make it easier to search the database of rules as well as understand the entire rulemaking process.

Launched on August 15, the RICR has already received national recognition including the 2018 Robert J.Colborn, Jr. Innovation Award by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS).

Business Assistant

The Business Assistant includes an improved interface that will guide future business owners through a series of questions related to the business they are looking to start. Based on the answers to those questions, the Business Assistant provides users with a checklist of state agencies, licenses, and regulations relevant to their business.

The site will also provide users with an estimate of the fees associated with starting their business.
