NEW: RI Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.9 Percent

The RI Department of Labor and Training announced on Thursday that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2015 dropped to 5.9 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the May 2015 rate of 6.0 percent.

Over the year, the unemployment rate is down one and eight tenths percentage points from June of 2014. This marks the lowest unemployment rate since November 2007.

"While Rhode Island's unemployment rate continues to improve, we are still not recovering at pace with the rest of the country. Looking at this latest report, I'm particularly concerned with how much our construction sector continues to struggle. We lost 700 construction jobs in June - a time when good weather should be stimulating this industry. This is largest over-the-month loss in this sector since October 2008," said Governor Gina Raimondo.
