Kyle Bennett, who has long been at the forefront of United Way of Rhode Island’s legislative and policy work, has been promoted to the organization’s Chief of Staff & Public Affairs Officer. Most recently, he served as senior director of public policy and equity, and joined United Way in 2006.
“Kyle is a tireless, unquestioned champion for equity, justice, and prosperity for all Rhode Islanders, and our state is fortunate to have someone so dedicated to helping their neighbors and communities to thrive,” said Cortney Nicolato, United Way’s president and CEO. “His passion and natural ability to bridge government, private, and nonprofit stakeholders has been instrumental in advancing our mission to address the root causes of racial and economic disparities.”
Throughout his many years with United Way, Kyle has played a significant role in developing the organization’s strategic plans, and supporting its legislative and policy agendas. In particular, his influence on United Way’s current “LIVE UNITED 2025” strategic plan emphasizes reversing the racial inequities that hold back the progress of BIPOC communities in Rhode Island.
Additionally, Kyle’s efforts, insights, and community collaboration have been invaluable in supporting critical initiatives such as 401Gives and United Way’s data collection and analysis around legislation advocacy, and proposed, and enacted bills. In everything he does, Kyle’s commitment to equity is evident, from helping to develop internal growth opportunities for colleagues to his involvement with the City of Providence Municipal Reparations Commission to support communities of color.
Now, in his new role as Chief of Staff & Public Affairs Officer, Kyle will continue to leverage his extensive experience to oversee United Way’s robust policy and legislative agendas, and lead strategic initiatives across government, public policy, and corporate strategy.
“Kyle exemplifies our core values and his journey at United Way highlights his profound impact on the organization and the broader Rhode Island community,” added Nicolato. “I am thrilled for Kyle to have this opportunity and further drive our mission forward.”
