Providence College (PC) President Fr. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. has announced that Fr. Thomas More Garrett, O.P., has been appointed to serve as his new executive vice president (EVP) for Mission/Chief Operating Officer. EVP serves as the second in command at the College. Fr. Thomas’ appointment comes following the recent retirement of Ann Manchester-Molak ’75, who held the position of executive vice president for the last four years.

According to PC, Fr. Thomas, an assistant professor of practice in management, has been a part of the Providence College community for the last eight years. He has served as the College’s associate vice president and associate general counsel as well as vice president for mission and ministry. Fr. Thomas is a member of the Board of Trustees and serves on the Board Affairs, Catholic and Dominican Mission, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Executive, Finance, Investment, and Strategic Planning committees of the Board. He is a member of the Provincial and Economic Councils of the Province of St. Joseph and serves as the Promoter of Catholic Social Teaching for the Province.

“I appointed Fr. Thomas to the Cabinet-level post of vice president of mission and ministry in July, and he has served admirably and faithfully in that position,” said Fr. Sicard. “I am grateful that Fr. Thomas is now willing to serve the College in an expanded role—providing continued oversight for the important work of the Office of Mission and Ministry, as well as leadership in the Executive Office.”

Fr. Thomas made his solemn profession in the Order of Preachers in 2012 and was ordained to the priesthood in 2015. Before entering the Dominican Order, he practiced law and worked as a Congressional staffer. In private practice, his work focused on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and market regulatory compliance.

He received his J.D. in 2000 from The Pennsylvania State University School of Law and he received his S.T.L. from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC in 2015. During his time in priestly formation, Fr. Thomas worked in the General Counsel’s Office of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and as an assistant to the chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives.
