RI Unemployment Rate Dropped to 5.3 % in October

The RI Department of Labor and Training announced that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for October dropped to 5.3 percent, down one -tenth of a percentage point from September 2015's rate of 5.4 percent. This is the lowest unemployment rate since August of 2007. 

Over the year, the unemployment rate is down one and eight-tenths percentage points from October 2014. 

The number of unemployed RI residents was 29,400, down 1,000 from the September figure of 30,400. That number represents the lowest unemployment level since June 2007. Over the year, the number of unemployed dropped by 9,400.

The RI labor force totaled 556,800 in October of 2015, down 1,700 from September 2015 but up 5,900 from October 2014. 

Overall, the U.S. unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in October 2015, down one tenth of a percentage point from the previous month and down seven tenths of a percentage point over the year.
