Big Weekend at Sandywoods

Two great shows are in store this weekend at Sandywoods, an intimate listening space in Tiverton, RI. Boston based folkie Amy Black brings her band tonight, with Blues greatDanielle Miraglia headlining tomorrow. Another well known regional artist, Ryan Fitzsimmons joins Miraglia on Saturday. All three are rising stars on the indie-folk-blues scene, well worth the trip to Sandywoods! Shows both nights start at 8PM – check the web site for tickets.

Spyro Gyra and The Temptations

It’s a huge weekend at the Park Theatre in Cranston starting tomorrow night with renown Jazz-Fusion act, Spyro Gyra. They were there at the beginning of the Fusion movement along with bands like Weather Report and Return to Forever. Guitar genius Stanley Jordan opens the show at 7:30.Tickets are still available here. Sunday night at the Park, its legendary Motown band The Temptations. We hope you have tickets, or are not “too proud to beg,” as this show is sold out!

Mark Mulcahey

Also, tomorrow night, Roots Hoots House Concerts in Peacedale has former Miracle Legion guitarist Mark Mulcahey. He’s been receiving a lot of attention lately in the indie and mainstream press; it’s a great opportunity to hear the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter. The show is nearing a sell out – but don’t worry, if you miss this one, he’ll be back at the Columbus Theatre in March.

Klezmer Ensemble

Here’s a show that should be a lot of fun. Common Fence Music in Portsmouth has The Yiddishkeit Klezmer Ensemble tomorrow night. The band is known for high energy shows – be prepared to dance! The post-Hanukah party starts at 8PM, tickets are $20 in advance, $23 at the door. The Ensemble is also holding a workshop Sunday in Newport at the Levi Gale House. Check the website for details.

NRBQ

Speaking of a fun time, legendary rockers NRBQ play The Met on Sunday. The well-loved band, who got their start playing the college circuit in the 1970’s, is currently led by original keyboardist Terry Adams. NOTE: It’s an early show for the “Q”, with Original Jelly Roll Soul and Happiness, (featuring members of Deer Tick), opening at 5PM. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
