Brown Grad Andrew Kaplan Awarded Rhodes Scholarship

Brown Graduate Andrew Kaplan was one of 32 American Students chosen as Rhodes Scholarship winners for 2016. Kaplan graduated Brown in 2015 and is currently working on homelessness and housing as an urban fellow in the New York mayor's office. Kaplan will begin a master's degree in comparative social policy at Oxford University.

While at Brown, Kaplan was a political science concentrator and received his degree magna cum laude. Kaplan's senior thesis talked about rising homelessness in New York City.

At Brown, Kaplan founded Common Sense Action, the first national bipartisan grass roots advocacy organization of millennials, which grew to over 40 university chapters in 20 states.

Kaplan also led Brown's Taekwondo team to a national championship in four straight years. Kaplan is a black held in Taekwondo.

Rhodes Scholarship

Rhodes Scholarships provide all expenses for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England and in some instances allow funding for four years.

According to the announcement, the Rhodes is "the oldest and best known award for international study, and arguably the most famous academic award available to American college graduates."
