Growing Warnings About Thanksgiving and Its Potential Impact on Coronavirus Spread

Warnings about spreading the virus at Thanksgiving
For many, Thanksgiving is the favorite holiday -- it is a great family gathering. But there is growing concern that Thanksgiving could be gasoline on the coronavirus fire.

Cases in the United States are at record growth and in Rhode Island, record number of cases are being reported.

"I know that some people are still going to want to hold an in-person gathering. Again, you absolutely should not, but if you're going to make it your priority, you should avoid social gatherings and non-essential errands for the 14 days before and the 14 days after. This is the best way to avoid catching the virus and spreading it to your loved ones," said Governor Gina Raimondo.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises against big indoor gatherings and warns against travel.

"Only 27% of people say they are celebrating Thanksgiving as they normally would, according to a recent survey of 9,262 adults by CivicScience. Of those who are meeting in person but taking precautions, 20% plan to be with a smaller group, 14% plan to wear masks and 14% plan to social distance, according to the poll," reports the Wall Street Journal.

"Two-thirds of adults think traveling for the fall and winter holidays poses at least a moderate risk to their health and well-being, with 32% saying it poses a large risk, according to a recent Axios/Ipsos poll of 1,079 people. In an Ipsos poll released Tuesday, 70% of people said they were concerned there would be a spike in Covid cases in their area during the holiday season," according to the WSJ.
