Attempted Robbery of Providence Pizzeria Stopped When Suspect Punched in Face by Cook

Providence police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at a pizzeria on Sunday night. 

When police arrived, they found that workers had detained who they said was the suspect -- after he had been punched in the face by a cook.

On Sunday, police responded to PVD Pizza at 1035 Douglas Avenue shortly after 10 PM for a report of an attempted robbery. 

When police got to the location, they said they found that employees were holding down the male suspect.

The worker who was at the counter at the time of the attempted robbery said that a man walked in and demanded money from the register.

According to witness statements, the suspect made comments that he had a weapon. 

The staff told police that one of the cooks then came and struck the suspect, knocking him down before two employees pulled him outside and waited for police. 

Police said that during their investigtion they found that the suspect had been carrying a dust pan in his jacket -- to make it look like he had a weapon.
