Corn Oil Tank Catches Fire in Providence - Latest Fire Off Allens Avenue

A corn oil storage tank caught fire in the industrial area in Providence's port area on Thursday afternoon. 

The incident occurred on Terminal Road off of Allens Avenue in South Providence.

It marks the latest fire in the city in the area.

Providence Fire Chief Derek Silva posted to social media, "Firefighters are working to contain a fire in a corn oil storage tank with approximately 3,000 gallons on board. No injuries and no extension beyond the tank are this point."

Community activist Linda Perri, who serves as President of the Washington Park Association on Providence's South Side, tells GoLocal that ths issue of fires at ProvPort was an issue recently discussed at a recent community meeting. "There needs to be annual fire inspections and updated plans for each of the tenants at ProvPort.>

"This neighborhood is consistently the victim of the impacts of the fires in the area.

Rhode Island Recycled Metals located a short distance from this fire, has suffered three fires in recent years.
