East Siders Hit by BB Gun Drive By - Part of a National Trend?

Saara Moskowitz posted that “Friday night at 10:30 PM my husband and a friend were in Savoy between Hope and Morris. A silver Honda sedan drove up to them (driving towards Hope) and the driver shot a BB gun at them, hitting my husband. 2 pellets lodged themselves into my husbands suit as well.”
“He (Moskowitz’ husband) said he’s heard of a trend where people drive around shooting pedestrians (with BB guns) and film it for the Internet, doesn’t know if it was a hate crime…wondering if anyone else was hit? A bystander a block away (Savoy between Elmgrove and Morris) did see the plate # just before it happened, as she thought the car was driving a bit oddly..”

Trend Across the Country
This is not a new trend across the country. Similar drive by BB gun shootings have taken place across the country. A few examples, include:
The Dallas News reported on March 22, “Two 18-year-olds suspected of going on a drive-by BB gun shooting spree in Arlington that injured at least seven people were arrested Tuesday night, police said.”
WFMZ in Allentown, PA reports, “Police in Allentown are investigating, after someone shot a woman with a BB gun during a drive-by attack.
Police say it happened around 9:17 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of East Juniata Street.
A 50-year-old woman was getting groceries out of her car when a dark colored, small vehicle drove by. That's when someone with a BB gun shot at her three times, according to police.
KATC reported, “An 18-year-old and two juveniles were arrested in Youngsville (LA) after allegedly driving by and shooting a BB gun or an air-soft gun in two separate incidents.
Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux said 18-year-old Kyle Guidry and two juveniles drove by two separate areas and shot two people using either a BB gun or an air-soft gun.
The people struck were not injured.”
