Former President Donald Trump survived another apparent assassination attempt Sunday when Secret Service agents opened fire on a gunman at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Fla., where the former president was golfing just a few holes away.

The FBI said it was investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.” 

Trump was unhurt.

At about midnight Sunday night, Trump posted to social media:

I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes - It was certainly an interesting day! Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!

According to multiple reports, the gunman fled but was arrested shortly later. The man arrested is Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, of Hawaii.

The agents, who were a few holes ahead of Trump on the course, fired when they spotted the man in some bushes pointing a rifle through a fence, law-enforcement officials said. The man then took off in a vehicle. An AK-style firearm was recovered at the scene.

A Trump campaign spokesman confirmed that the former president was safe but provided no other details.

This incident comes just over two months since an attempt on Trump's life on July 13.
