Brother Michael’s journey began in Barrytown, NY, where he entered the Novitiate in 1957. He professed his first vows in 1958 and his final vows in 1964. His dedication to academic excellence and spiritual leadership was evident throughout his distinguished career. A scholar at heart, Brother Michael held degrees from Catholic University (BA, European History/English, 1962), St. Mary’s College (MA, Education Administration, 1984), and St. Mary’s University (MA, Arts Administration, 1987), and a PhD from Dowling College (honoris causa).
Brother Michael served in numerous leadership roles, including Principal of La Salle Military Academy in Oakdale, NY, assistant Provincial of the Christian Brothers in Narragansett, RI, and Provincial of Christian Brothers in Narragansett from 1987-1996

During his tenure, Brother Michael spearheaded transformative advancements that elevated the institution to new heights of academic and artistic excellence.
Under his guidance, La Salle Academy witnessed remarkable growth, including the construction of the McLaughlin Athletic Center and the state-of-the-art Arts Center, which became a hub for creative expression and a testament to his passion for the arts. He also oversaw the construction of a cutting-edge science building; ensuring students had access to premier facilities that prepared them for academic and professional success in STEM fields
Beyond infrastructure, Brother Michael’s leadership was characterized by his unwavering focus on fostering a vibrant and inclusive Lasallian community. He was deeply involved in the daily life of the school, forming meaningful connections with students, faculty, and families. Whether greeting students in the hallways, attending sporting events, or celebrating the arts, Brother Michael’s presence was a constant source of encouragement and inspiration.
His spiritual leadership was equally impactful, as he regularly delivered poignant reflections at school liturgies and ceremonies that resonated with the entire community. These moments reinforced the values of St. John Baptist de La Salle and united the diverse student body in shared purpose and faith.
Brother Michael’s presidency was a time of unparalleled growth and renewal for La Salle Academy, solidifying its reputation as a leader in high school education. His passion, vision, and tireless dedication continue to inspire all who walk the campus he so dearly loved. He was a true Lasallian, devoted to faith, service, community, and the betterment of every individual he encountered.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, from 5:00–7:30 PM, with a Prayer Service of Remembrance at 6:30 PM, at The Chapel of Our Lady of the Star, Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Road, Narragansett, RI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 18, at 10:30 AM at The Chapel of Our Lady of the Star, followed by burial at Christian Brothers Cemetery.
