Ghiorse: Jose Update Tuesday PM

John Ghiorse
The center of Hurricane Jose is still over 300 miles south of New England but the outer rain bands have reached into Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. There is really very little change in the forecast.

The storm is losing its tropical characteristics but still has peak winds to hurricane strength (74mph) and is moving slowly northward. It will gradually make a turn to the east before reaching our shores and then likely stall or loop over the ocean well southeast of Nantucket in a few days.

For us, this still means periods of rain, gusty 25-35 mph northeast winds and high surf with potential beach erosion through today and tomorrow. Much like a northeaster we are so used to during the fall.

Any change in the track or intensity, while unlikely, is not out of the question so I will continue to monitor and update the forecast as needed.
