Mall Worker Robbed and Assaulted by Gang on Skybridge in Providence

A worker at Providence Place Mall was robbed and assaulted by a group of individuals on the skybridge on Saturday.

Police say mall security used pepper spray to break up the altercation and that an 18-year-old has been arrested.

About Incident 

Police were called to Providence Place Mall shortly after 10:30 PM for a report of a disturbance.

The victim - a male in his 30s - said he had just gotten off his shift working at one of the Mall's restaurants.

He told police when he was on the skybridge, he saw a group of males looking at him and knew they might try and rob him. 

The males then approached him and began assaulting him, at which time he got into a physical altercation with the assailants.

He told police he tried to defend himself with a knife that he carried with him.

Mall security arrived on the scene and used pepper spray to break up the fight.

The victim was taken by rescue to the hospital for his injuries as well as one of the suspects, who was arrested, who has been identified as Aveon Younggolding, age 18.

The victim said his phone was stolen during the assault.
