On Tuesday night, at approximately 10:39 p.m., a 45-year-old man was struck by a vehicle traveling on Park Avenue near the intersection of Elmwood Avenue.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on Park Avenue approaching Elmwood Ave. The man was on the north side of Elmwood Avenue headed southbound crossing Park Avenue towards the Mobil Gas Station.
The man while crossing Park Avenue southbound in a marked crosswalk was struck by the Equinox. The man ended up onto the hood and then came to rest approximately 91 feet from the crosswalk.
He suffered serious head injuries and was transported to RI Hospital.
At the time of the crash, there was a Cranston Police Officer stopped at the red light in the northbound lane of Elmwood Avenue near Park Avenue. The officer saw the man enter the crosswalk to cross Park Avenue. At the same time, he heard a loud engine and saw a white vehicle coming at what appeared to be a high rate of speed on Park Avenue heading eastbound and hit the man.
The vehicle immediately stopped after the crash as the officer who witnessed the crash was on scene.
