About Incident

Police said they responded to Handy Street shortly after 1 PM on Friday for a report of a pedestrian being hit.

When they arrived, police said encountered a man lying in the street, next to a motorized wheelchair, who told police he had back pain.

The victim — a male in his 50s — told police he had been waiting for a medical transportation van to take him to an appointment.

According to police, the victim said the van was unable to drive up the street due to a vehicle blocking its path.

The victim said he went to look for the vehicle’s owner, when a neighbor arrived in his SUV, and an argument ensued.

The driver of the SUV — later identified as Bryan Molina, age 23 — then reportedly accelerated his vehicle and ran over the victim, causing him to fall out of his wheelchair.

Rescue was called to the scene to treat the victim; Molina was arrested and taken to Central Station.

Detectives are currently investigating.
