About Incident
Shortly after 10:30 PM, police received a report of a possible shooting on Dorr Street.
When detectives arrived on the scene, they found a man in his early thirties with a gunshot wound to his neck; the victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The victim told police he had been sitting outside with a family member when man approached them and asked them for help — before pulling out a gun.
The victim told police a struggle ensued, and the man shot the gun, hitting him in the neck; the victim said the suspect also tried to steal a necklace off his neck at that time.
Police found a gun in the yard and turned it over to detectives.
According to police, a K9 first on the scene alerted officers to a man fleeing the area, who was pursued and apprehended.
Police arrested the suspect — later identified as Raymond Symonds, age 19 — who is now facing multiple firearms charges.
