Local Emergency Declaration
The town of New Shoreham has issued an emergency declaration.
In addition, the Block Island Chamber of Commerce issues the following statement:
Rhode island Commerce CEO and staff, and the Lt. Governor will be on island on Monday to help process any businesses needing emergency loans and assistance prior to your insurance companies settling any claims. The goal is to try to help you relaunch quickly.
The Chamber of Commerce will try to pin down a location Sunday, but it likely will be in Town Hall.
Please contact the Chamber with any room openings as the Seacrest, Water Street Inn, and New Shoreham house are closed till next Friday along with losing the rooms at the Harborside for the season.
The Chamber wants to thank everyone who helped last night. It was a remarkable community effort. We were able to house everyone at the gym comfortably and safely. Special thanks to Tom Risom, the taxi's and Pat Evans who jumped in with the school bus to help transport the many dozens of stranded island guests.
