NEW: 195 Redevelopment Consultant Contract Draws Nine Bidders

The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation has received nine eligible proposals in response to the Economic Development and Real Estate Strategy Consulting Services Request for Proposal (RFP) for development of the I-195 Redevelopment District and neighboring areas in Providence.

The I-195 Redevelopment Commission was created in late 2011 as a subsidiary of Commerce RI with the task of redeveloping the land and area previously used by the now-relocated Interstate I-195. The Commission’s primary mission is, “To foster economic development on the I-195 land and beyond and generate job creation opportunities that embrace the City’s demographics by creating a vibrant mixed use environment that encourages high value users to build well-designed structures that enhance the value of surrounding neighborhoods and augment the sense of place,” and to oversee, plan, implement, and administer the development of 19 developable acres of land.

According to a statement from Melissa Czerwein, the Senior Communication Manager of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, “Selection of the successful respondent(s) is anticipated to occur before the next Commerce Corporation board meeting. Once selected, it is anticipated that these consultants will help to assemble a strategy related to the development of the I-195 land. It is also possible that a consultant or consultants will be retained in order to assist in evaluating an anticipated stadium proposal. These vendors will conduct their work in collaboration with I-195 Redevelopment Commission leadership and consultants.”
