Controversial Planning Director Deller Hired by Town of Johnston

Former Providence Planning Director Thomas Deller has been hired by the Town of Johnston -- after resigning as Development Director in Hartford, Connecticut amidst the recent stadium controversy there.

"Thomas Deller, the city’s development director, has resigned amid questions over payments made to a would-be developer of Dillon Stadium," reported the Hartford Courant last October. 

Deller had resigned from his position as Providence Planning Director in 2012 before taking the job in Hartfo

"He's working part-time, that once a full-time position," said Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena. "By putting people part-time, we make significant savings on pension, FICA, healthcare -- I've done it with a number of positions."

"We didn't have a town planner, he met all the qualifications.  We thoroughly vetted him," said Polisena. 

Polisena said he belied Deller is making $40 to $50 and hour, and by statute has to work under 19 hours a week as a part-time employee.
