NEW: NAACP Providence Branch to Honor Five at Freedom Fund Gala

The NAACP Providence Branch will honor four individuals -- and one company -- for their community work tonight at their annual Freedom Fund Gala at the Providence Marriott.

The event, "Journey for Justice: Our Votes, Our Jobs, Our Schools, Our Lives Matter" will feature Ed Gordon of BET as the keynote speaker.

NAACP Youth Council leader Pilar McCloud will be given the Rosa Parks Award, Ed German will receive the George S. Lima Award, and John Prince will be awarded the Medgar Evers Award.

In addition, Rhode Island Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea will be recognized with the Ida B. Wells Award, and Blue Cross Blue Shield RI is the recipient of the Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Award.

GoLocal's Kate Nagle won the Ida B. Wells Award in 2014.   NAACP Providence Branch President Jim Vincent was one of GoLocal's 14 Who Made a Difference in 2014.
