The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is recommending the closure of Scarborough Beach for swimming due to high bacteria counts.

According to RIDOH, the source of the high bacteria levels is unknown.

RIDOH adds that they “will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season. The status of a beach may change as new results become available.”

Beach Closures

The closure of Scarborough is the latest in a series of beach closures by RI Health over the last couple of weeks.

As GoLocalProv reported last Wednesday, RI Health recommended the closure of seven beaches due to high bacteria levels.

Prior to that, RI Health recommended the closure of Kent County YMCA Lower and Upper Ponds in Warwick.
