Providence Police Officer Arrested on DUI Charges -- UPDATED

A Providence police officer has been arrested for driving under the influence, GoLocal has learned. 

Officer Victor Tavarez was arraigned in Kent County District Court on Monday.

According to the criminal complaint, the arrest stems from a June 18 incident in East Greenwich.

Tavarez, who was released on $1,000 personal recognizance, has a pre-trial date set for July 31.

Records show Tavarez was a member of the 69th Providence Police Training Academy, graduating in 2019. 

 

Police Response

When reached, Tavarez said he had no comment.

Providence Police Deputy Chief Kevin Lanni told GoLocal Tavarez pled not guilty -- and that Tavarez is also facing charges of refusing a brethalyzer.

Lanni said that Tavarez is currently on administrative leave with pay.
