Providence police have identified the two women shot early Sunday morning, including the 19 year-old-woman who was killed while out on her birthday.

Berta Perreira-Roldan, of Revere was out celebrating when she was fatally shot, and another woman -- Crystal Peloquin, 38, of North Providence, was shot several times, but is expected to survive.

"It's really unfair. Really, really, unfair,” said Caroline Moolic who worked with Pereira-Roldan at Kinsale in downtown Boston told WCVB in Boston.

Pereira-Roldan was a waitress full-time in order to earn enough money to pay for community college, Moolic said.

“She was posting stories all night and I was watching it and I was like, ‘You look like you're having a blast, I'm so happy,’” Moolic said.

According to police, the women were not the intended targets of the shooting Sunday just before 2 a.m. on Detroit Avenue.

"This is a tragic weekend for our city," said Major David Lapatin, at the press conference at the Providence Public Safety Complex.

About Shooting

According to Lapatin, Peloquin was with a friend when she was talking with two men, when the shots were fired.

Roldan, who was with another group of people -- and over a hundred yards away -- was also shot, and killed.

Lapatin said investigators believe the men speaking with Peloquin may have been the intended targets, and that it may have been gang-related.

Police are seeking information about the shooter and have asked anyone with information to call Detective Michaels at 401-243-6302.
