Rhode Island State Police Identifies Victims of Two Traffic Fatalities

The announcement was made by Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety.
The victim of a car crash at the intersection of Route 6 and Interstate 295 in Johnston at about 11:10 a.m. today was identified as Nicholas M. Winfield, age 26, of 571 West Greenville Road, Scituate. He was traveling west on Route 6, approaching the ramp to Interstate 295 South, when his vehicle struck an unoccupied truck on the left shoulder of the road and caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to RISP.

Atnip, age 31, of 32 Porter Terrace, Stoughton, MA. He was traveling south on Interstate 95 when he lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a curve. He was ejected from the motorcycle after it crashed into a concrete barrier in the high-speed breakdown lane. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where was he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet at the time.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
