RI ACLU's Brown Calls Supreme Court Ruling on Travel Ban "Shameful"

RI ACLU Executive Director Steven Brown calls Supreme Court ruling Shameful
The U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Donald Trump’s third travel ban in a 5-4 decision on Tuesday.

The ban puts limits on travel from several predominantly Muslim countries.

About the ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. said, “The proclamation is expressly premised on legitimate purposes: preventing entry of nationals who cannot be adequately vetted and inducing other nations to improve their practices.”

RI ACLU executive director Steven Brown released the following statement:

“Today is a shameful day in our history, but justice will ultimately prevail.  In the meantime, the ACLU of RI will continue to fight for the rights of all in the face of the Trump Administration’s discriminatory and xenophobic actions.  As the ACLU’s lawsuit on behalf of RI resident Lilian Calderon demonstrates, these actions affect real people in very concrete and devastating ways. We encourage all Rhode Islanders to speak out and join with us in continuing to fight these attacks on our basic rights and freedoms.”
