According to the Department of Health, the total number of cases is now 5,500 — after reporting 5,090 the day before.

“We have to make slight adjustments to the previous day’s numbers. Testing is now happening at many different laboratories throughout Rhode Island,” said Rhode Island Department of Health spokesperson Joseph Wendelken, of the cases appearing to go up 410 in one day.

“Those laboratories all report their results to the Rhode Island Department of Health. In reconciling all those reports and sometimes getting reports slightly after deadline, we sometimes have to adjust the numbers from the previous day," he added.

On Tuesday, Rhode Island reported 271 hospitalizations, with 67 in the ICU, and 43 on ventilators.
