RI Latino PAC Urges Elected Officials to Oppose Trump's Policy of Family Separation

RI Latino PAC urges elected officials to oppose Trump's policy of family separation
The Rhode Island Latino PAC (RILPAC) is urging the state’s elected officials to take a stand in oppositions to President Donald Trump’s policy of family separation.

The Trump Administration’s policy of separating children from their family at the border has reportedly now seen 2,000 children removed from their parents in six weeks.

RILPAC Vice President Marcela Betancur released the following statement:

“Refusal to stand up and speak out against the immoral family separations taking place at the U.S./Mexico border is unconscionable. All elected officials and those who seek elected office in Rhode Island, regardless of political affiliation need to denounce this unconscionable policy. Children are not bargaining chips for immigration policy.

RILPAC applauds today’s news announcing Governor Raimondo will not send our national guard to enforce the draconian policy of family separation and we also applaud Congressman Cicilline who have visited the detention centers and urge him, and the rest of the Federal Delegation to continue fighting for the children. To candidates who have denounced the separation of families seeking asylum, we thank you as well and hope you will continue to use your platform to call out injustice and push for comprehensive immigration reform that is humane and just. To those that stay silent, our community won’t forget.”
