After just three hours of deliberating behind closed doors on Friday, a jury found Steve Bannon guilty of contempt of Congress.
Bannon, who was on trial this week for contempt of Congress over his decision to ignore subpoenas related to the Jan. 6 Committee, had promised a fiery trial that would embarrass the government. In the end, he and his legal team didn’t put a single witness on the stand.
He was found guilty on two counts -- refusal to appear for a deposition and refusal to produce documents. He faces a minimum of 30 days in jail and a maximum of one year per count.
Bannon did not testify.
He served as one of President Donald Trump's top advisors and served in the White House on staff as well.
“It also arrived one day after video of Mr. Bannon briefly appeared in a public hearing of the House committee he had snubbed, as investigators played a clip of him saying that Mr. Trump had planned to declare victory in the 2020 election, no matter what the results were,” reports the New York Times.
