Unredacted State Police Report on Cranston Police Department Unveiled

An unredacted version of the Cranston Police investigation by the State Police has been made available.
Following the release of the 182 Rhode Island State Police investigation into the Cranston Police Department -- that had contained redactions of names and places throughout the document -- the Coalition Radio's Dave Fisher has produced an unredacted version.

"It would appear that the RISP didn't take much care in redacting this report - at least in the web version that was propagated. Frankly, anyone with a laptop and ten minutes to spare could have done it. It also appears that the names and companies that were redacted, shouldn't have been in the first place," said Fisher.  "Most of what was redacted would become clear with a simple public records search. Appointed city officials, companies contracted by the City of Cranston, etc."

State Police Superintendent Colonel Steven O'Donnell responded to the development on Tuesday night.

"We were made aware that someone was able to redact the document," said O'Donnell.  "I'm not sure they are at fault.  They were able to doctor the original document.  We went in and reposted the [updated] redacted version on our website."

"It doesn't impact the assessment in any way -- we redacted certain things for privacy reasons," said O'Donnell. "Whatever someone else does to manipulate it is on them."
