Providence City Councilwomen: 15 to Watch in RI 2015

The number of women on the Providence City Council has doubled.
Individually, they would take up four out of the 15 to Watch list, but we're keeping an eye on the group as a whole.  On November 6, the number of women on the Providence City Council increased by 100%.  In the span of 24 hours, women on the City Council went from 2 out of 15 members last term, to four of the 15 members this term.

Returning council members are Ward 9's Carmen Castillo, who is a union steward and board member of UNITE HERE, and has been on the council since 2012. Ward 15's Sabina Matos, who is a rising star in the state Democratic party, has been on the council since 2010.

Castillo and Matos are now joined by Jo-Ann Ryan, who won outgoing Council President Michael Solomon's seat in Ward 5, and Mary Kay Harris, who defeated sitting council member Davian Sanchez in Ward 11.
