RI Secretary of State’s Chief of Staff Posts Message Calling Out WPRO’s DePetro

On election eve, Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea's Chief of Staff posted a message urging people to vote in a post in Spanish, in direct response to a post by WPRO’s John DePetro, which he included. 

 

“Si usted esta inscrito para votar y todavia cree que no vale la pena, ahi le dejo esta joya que publicó un popular locutor radial en su página. ¡Vota!,” wrote Gonzalo Cuervo on a Facebook post on Monday.

The automated Facebook translation, says, "If you are registered to vote and still don't think it's worth, here I leave this jewel which published a popular radio announcer on his page. Vote!"

The "jewel" cited by Cuervo is the picture DePetro posted, of what appears to be men of Hispanic background voting, although unclear where. 

 

DePetro wrote, "Do you support early voting in Providence?" to accompany the picture.

DePetro is a strong supporter of GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump and served as Master of Ceremony for Trump’s visit to Warwick in the spring.

According to the Secretary of State's website, the office's duties include, "The Secretary of State is the state’s third ranking elected official, following the Governor and Lt. Governor. State law gives the Secretary of State many different duties. As Rhode Island’s chief elections officer, the Secretary of State registers voters, prepares ballots, certifies election results and administers oaths of office."
