The Brown Bears men's basketball team (1-1) defeated the (1-1) Holy Cross Crusaders 71-55 on Monday night at the Pizzitola Center.

"I thought we had two really good days practice, Saturday and Sunday, and I believe that was a big factor as to why we won and obviously getting contributions from a lot of different guys. It was good to see," said Brown head coach Mike Martin after the game.

A Justin Massey layup put Brown up 50-41 with with 12:52 left in the game when the Crusaders made a run.

Holy Cross scored seven straight points capped off by a Cullen Hamilton jumper to cut Brown's lead to just two points, 50-48 with 10:27 left to play.

From the point, Brown went on a quick 8-2 run, sparked by a JR Hobbie three-pointer, to go up 58-50 with 8:29 left to play.

The Crusaders would not get closer than five points the rest of the way.

Leading the Way

JR Hobbie led the Bears with 16 points off the bench in 25 minutes of play while Steven Spieth and Cedric Kuakumensah both had double-doubles in the game.

Freshman Corey Daugherty netted 13 points in 27 minutes.

Next Up

Brown travels to Niagara Falls on Wednesday to take on Niagara. After that, the Bears will visit in-state rival Providence on Saturday, November 21st.
