Bears Fade in Second Half, Drop Game 66-49 To American

The Bears led by as much as eight points in the first half but at halftime trailed American 29-28. In the second half, the Eagles opened up on a 16-8 run helped by three Brown turnovers and a couple of missed free throws by the Bears. Brown never got closer then ten points the rest of the game.

Jesse Reed led the Eagles with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Next up for Brown, they host in state rival Bryant University on Saturday, December 6. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Five takeaways from Brown's 66-49 Loss to American
Leland King
One positive for the Brown Bears out of this game was the play of sophomore Leland King.
King posted his second double-double of the season with 11 points and a career high 13 rebounds in 23 minutes of play off the bench.
King has been in double figures in all but two games this season for the Bears and is their leading scorer.
J.R. Hobbie
J.R. Hobbie continues to be a streaky shooter for the Bears this season and tonight was not a good night for him.
Hobbie went one for six from beyond the three-point arc and one for seven in the game in which he played 26 minutes.
Hobbie led the team in turnovers with four in the game, Brown turned the ball over 12 times in total.
Steven Spieth
On a night where Brown needed scoring against a very good defensive team, Steven Spieth failed to deliver.
Spieth played 35 minutes in the game and posted two points and pulled down three rebounds.
Spieth went one for five from the field and missed the only three pointer and free throw that he took in the game.
Not a good night for Steven Spieth.
Points off Turnovers
A difference maker in this game was the points off turnovers. Overall, neither team turned the ball over a whole lot, American had nine turnovers while Brown had 12, however American dominated the points off turnovers.
The Eagles got 16 points off the 12 Brown turnovers while the Bears only got four points off the nine American turnovers. All four points came in the first half.
Offensive woes
American has one of the best scoring defenses in the country, in fact they rank fourth nationally in the scoring defense category and Brown found that out the hard way in this game. Especially in the second half.
The Bears shot 28 percent from the field in the second half compared to the 40 percent they shot in the first half. For the game, Brown shot just 34 percent and 20 percent from three-point land.
Kuakumensah had 17 points, King had 11 points and Blackmon had nine points. Nobody else had more then three points in the game for Brown
