California's Xiong Beats Providence's Welch by 2 to Win Junior PGA Championship

California's Norman Xiong held off Providence's Patrick Welch to win the Junior PGA Championship at Wannamoisett Country Club  on Friday.

Xiong shot a 4 round total of 274 (2-under par) while Welch shot a 4 round total of 276 (even par), including a round 4 low of 67.

Xiong's four round scores went as follows, 68,70,68.68.

Welch's four round scores went as follows, 69, 71,69, 67.

Both Welch and Xiong will qualify for the Junior Ryder Cup Team.

Welch's Final Round

Welch was 2 under through his first nine holes after birdies on the 6th and 9th holes before making the turn and bogeying the 13th.

He managed to bounce back with a birdie on 14  before parring out to shoot an even par 35 on the back.

Xiong's Round

Xiong got off to a fast start in round four, birding the 2nd and 6th holes before dropping a shot on 7. He was able to make up for it with a birdie on 9 to make the turn at 2-under par.

On the back 9, Xiong bogeyed 12 and 16 before getting a shot back with a birdie on the par-5 17th.

Notable Finish

RI State Amateur Champion Davis Chatfield finished in a tie for 17th with a score of 8-over par.
