After the game was tied at one throughout the second half and first overtime period, the Friars and Tigers went to a second overtime period.

In the second overtime period, PC’s Paulo Lima was called for a penalty inside the box and given a yellow card.

The penalty resulted in a penalty kick for the Tigers.

Clemson’s Robbie Robinson took the kick and tucked it just under diving Providence goalkeeper Austin Aviza to win the game.

Just minutes before Clemson was given a penalty kick it appeared that the Friars were going to have an advantage.

Clemson’s Tanner Dieterich was booked with a red card and tossed from the game.

That meant that the Tigers had to play the rest of the contest with just ten men.

However, PC could not take advantage.

Friars Go Into Halftime Tied

After Providence missed out on an early chance in the opening minutes, it was Clemson that got on the board first when Robinson found the back of the net at the 8:46 mark of the first half.

Later in the half, the Friars would respond when Tiago Mendonca worked his way to the top of the box and fired a shot past Clemson goalkeeper George Marks at the 44:50 mark of the half.

Providence outshot Clemson 6-4 in the first frame and would go into the half tied.
