PC Soccer Beats NJIT 2-0 in 1st Round of NCAA Tournament

The Providence College Friars men’s soccer team shutout the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night at Chapey Field in Providence.

The win advances the Friars to the second round where they will face #15 seed Penn State on Sunday, November 24.

With the game scoreless in the tenth minute, PC’s Trevor Davock found the back of the net on a volley from Christopher Roman to put Providence up 1-0.

The game remained scoreless there rest of the half.

In the second half, Providence added an insurance goal when Esben Wolf found the back of the net in the 65th minute to give PC a 2-0 lead.

In the 68th minute, NJIT registered their first shot on goal of the match.

Thomas Radon shot from the 18-yard line but Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) was able to make the save.

Providence would hold on for the win, boosting their all-time NCAA Tournament record to 10-7-1.
