United's Marcelo Sarvas drew a penalty on a run up the right side when he was fouled by Je-Vaughn Watson. The play resulted with a Lamar Neagle penalty kick in the 33rd minute which he buried in the left corner of the net.
D.C. United would add two more goals in the second half, Luciano Acosta in the 86th minute and then Alvaro Saborio int he 90th minute on a breakaway to seal the win.
