RIC Soccer Picked to Finish 2nd in Little East

The Rhode Island College men’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the 2017 Little East Conference men’s soccer preseason coaches poll.

RIC got 40 points and one first place vote, while UMass Boston received six first place votes and 48 points overall.

RIC opens the 2017 season at home against Dean on Friday, September 1 at 4 p.m.

RIC will be led by senior forward Komla Dogbey. In 2016, he played in 18 games, and started all of them. He led the team and was third in the Little East in scoring with 15 goals and eight assists for 38 points on the season.

Anchoring the team on defense is senior defender Elimane Seye. Last season he played in 20 games, starting all of them. Seye led a RIC defense that allowed only 22 goals in 20 games this season to go along with seven shutouts. He also scored five goals.

Rounding out the list of returners is junior midfielder Dennis Vazquez. Vazquez played in 20 games in 2016, starting 18 of them. He finished tied for the team lead in assists with eight on the year, while adding two goals for 12 points.
