Sale Gives Up 7 Runs, Red Sox Fall 13-6 to Cleveland

Chris Sale gave up 7 runs
Boston Red Sox pitcher gave up seven runs on seven hits and three walks in only three innings of action as the Red Sox fell to Cleveland 13-6 on Thursday night.

In two games against Cleveland, Sale has an ERA of 14.63.

Thursday’s start matched the shortest start of Sale’s career. Over his career against Cleveland, Sale is 5-8 with a 4.87 ERA in 29 career appearances.

The loss drops the Red Sox to 73-54 on the season. They maintain a 4 1/2 game lead over the Yankees for first place in the AL East.

Indians Get to Sale

The Indians got to Sale early, pouring on four runs in the second inning.

Cleveland’s Roberto Perez and Francisco Lindor each had RBI singles in the inning to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Giovanny Urshela brought home a run on a ground out and a fourth run scored on a throwing error by Boston third baseman Rafael Devers to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.

After the Red Sox got one run back in the top of the third, the Indians added three more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Yandy Diaz had an RBI double, before Urshela added a two-run single to put Cleveland up 7-1.

The Red Sox got three runs back in the fourth inning to cut Cleveland’s lead to 7-4, however, the Indians would score six runs over the next two innings to take a 13-4 lead.

They would go on to win 13-6.

The Red Sox return to action on Friday, August 25 when they host the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a three game series.

Friday’s pitching matchup is Boston’s Rick Porcello against Baltimore’s Jeremy Hellickson.
