A teacher was assaulted in Providence on Monday - and a student was arrested.

The incident occurred at Roger Williams Middle School on Thurbers Avenue.

Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirmed that a student was arrested in conjunction with the assault.

On Monday afternoon, Providence Schools released the following statement:

An altercation took place between two students. The Providence Police Department (PPD) responded.

Thanks to the quick actions and support of our staff, no serious injuries were reported.

We want to emphasize that this type of behavior is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

PPSD said that a letter was sent to families Monday afternoon informing them of the incident.
