Smart Benefits: Reminder - 1095 Due Dates Looming

In November, the IRS extended certain due dates for ACA health coverage information reporting.

Applicable large employers with 50+ full-time employees, including full-time equivalents, now have until March 2, 2017, to distribute Form 1095-C to full-time employees. Likewise, employers with fewer than 50 full-time employees who sponsor a self-insured health plan must distribute to employees Form 1095-B by March 2, 2017.

Since individuals may not receive a Form 1095-C or 1095-B by the time they file their 2016 tax returns, the IRS has provided guidance indicating that taxpayers can file their personal income tax returns without having to attach the relevant Form 1095 to their returns.

Note that the IRS did NOT delay the due date for filing Forms 1094 and 1095 with the IRS, which remain February 28th for paper filers and March 31st for electronic filers.
