Smart Benefits: What Matters to Employees?

Google, Costco and Facebook earned top accolades in a recent survey conducted by Glassdoor that ranks the top 25 companies for compensation and benefits based on feedback from employees.

Is It All About The Money?

Google’s was recognized for its pay structure, which includes bonuses and equity shares. The average base salary for a software engineer there is $128,000. At Facebook, software engineers start at $120,000. But at Costco, entry-level employees like grocery baggers make just $11.75 an hour. So how did the retailer earn the number three spot in the rankings? Costco stays true to its mission by offering low cost, low deductible insurance choices to its employees.

“Free” Rules

What other perks do employees value? The survey results reveal that companies score big when they offer benefits like 24-hour, free gym access; free, onsite laundry and dry cleaning; and even free breakfast, lunch and dinner at workplace dining venues.
