Fit for Life: Are You Committed or Just Involved?

The chicken gave a small part of itself, however, the pig gave it all, and went 100% all in!!

When I asked a member the other day how she was doing with the 10# challenge, she replied, “I am trying.”
Then I asked if she was getting in all her protein, drinking her water, getting her workouts in, and logging her food so she can meet her required macros, she replied, “YES.”
Then I instructed her to stop saying that she is trying, and say that she is committed to achieving her goals.
She is “doing” what’s required, not trying, and the only way to succeed is to give your full commitment and take the necessary action to get there.
Trying is a victim concept. A bullshit term that means I am thinking about it, but not really spending any extra time, focus or energy into accomplishing my goal.
When you say to someone I’ll try, you are saying, “don’t count on it.” When you ask, are you going to pay me back that loan this week? And someone says I am going to try, do you think you will get your money?
However, when you make a commitment, you are saying the opposite. A commitment means, count on it getting done.
If you ask, “are you going to pay me back?” And someone says, meet me at the bank on Friday at 4 pm and I will have your money, I can guarantee you will feel better about getting paid. That’s a commitment.
A commitment is a declaration you use to move forward.
A commitment means you will alter yourself and your actions to match what is required to get the intended result that you are after. Commitment is the means by which you measure your intention, and focus your will. And so action begins when you make the declaration, “ I am committed to…”
What you have been committed to up to now is revealed by what you have produced or have failed to produce.
When you commit to something, you go all in and give it 100% of laser-like focus. When you are involved, you will go through the motions and do the bare minimum so you can check the box and say you did something.
When it comes to your job, are you committed?
When it comes to your health and fitness, are you committed?
Do you go to work each and every day with the best interest of the organization in mind?
I know that my team at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp does.
They don’t just go in and check the box and expect to get paid for the hours they log. They are fully committed to our mission and purpose of changing people’s lives through fitness and healthy living. They talk the talk, and they all walk the walk. They go above and beyond and are always exceeding my expectations.
Have you truly made a commitment to your health and fitness?
Do you schedule your workouts in your calendar, and show up 3-5 times per week, regardless of the weather, kids' sports, being tired, vacations, or working late, or do you let the most trivial nonsense or lame excuse deter you from showing up?
Are you relentlessly focused on getting your workout in, or does it need to be convenient for you?
Do you focus on your nutrition in addition to hitting the gym? They go hand in hand, so if you are neglecting either, you are not fully committed to your program. It takes full commitment to achieve your fitness goals, which is why many quit and give up on themselves.
We all want to be healthy and fit, unfortunately, it will never happen until you make that commitment to yourself and go all in, all the time. Health and fitness isn’t a “sometimes” or seasonal task, it requires a full commitment to yourself.
When you are not fully committed, you procrastinate & make excuses. When you are clear, you act. And this goes FAR beyond your work ethic and exercise routine.
Burn the boats.
I heard this term years ago in a leadership seminar that tells the story of Cortes in the year 1519.
Hernan Cortes arrived in the new world with 600 men, and upon arrival, made history by destroying his ships.
This sent a clear message to his men……There is no turning back.
Two years later, he succeeded in his conquest of the Aztec Empire.
Now that’s commitment!!
So if the pig & Cortes can make these kinds of commitments, what’s holding YOU back from making yours??
