Fit for Life: Do This, Not That!

It has been a challenging few weeks, to say the least.
First, I got COVID, then my team and several members got it. I was planning on taking it a little slower these past weeks and recalibrating for the new year, however, just the opposite happened.
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTWith my team down, I needed to step up and work double-time by running all the sessions on zoom for our members, & when we re-opened the gym after a brief closedown, ran all the sessions in the house as well.
I am telling you this, because even though we plan, sometimes things get in the way, and we need to pivot, regroup, and move in a different direction.
Sometimes life comes at us unexpectedly and as humans, we need to adapt and overcome obstacles when they present themselves to us.
On the positive side, when you go through adversity, it makes us stronger. Now that my whole team will be back next week, everyday tasks will seem a lot more manageable now that I am at full strength.
Now that it’s Christmas, certainly a magical time of the year, we can slow down enough for a couple of days to enjoy this time of the season. I received an email from my friend and coach Todd Durkin and wanted to share some of his tips with you.
It's a great time of the year TO DO the following 6 things…
1. Go out and look at some Christmas lights with the family.
2. Bake some cookies, and then GIFT them away.
3. Visit a store just to SEE people & SMILE at them. Is it just me, or do more people need to smile MORE? YES, it sure is great to see people LIVE again!!!
4. Support local small businesses and get last-minute gift certificates if you're still in the hunt for some gifts
5. Workout. It's needed MORE than most other weeks…and it's the first thing that usually gets cut this week.
6.Sit down for an hour or two and reflect on 2021. What were some of your big wins, losses, lessons, memorable experiences, and things you loved MOST about 2021.
Now is NOT a great time to do any of the following five things:
1. Eat whatever you want. (Always moderate)
2. NOT workout. (Even though most gyms are closed, move somehow. Pushups, squats, abs, walk etc. for at least 20 minutes. You will feel better after you do)
3. Rush around like a madman or madwoman shopping because you have “10” more things to get. And look angry while doing it. Again, SMILE!!!
4. Feel guilty that you haven’t done enough. Get over that right NOW.
5. Not plan. These next 2-weeks are prime-time major reflection & planning times. Even if you take 1-2 hours this week, and a few hours next week, it will make a MASSIVE difference in your focus, strategy, and even ENERGY going into 2022.
So, sit back and enjoy these next few days. Recharge your batteries, enjoy family, food, and have some fun.
Committed to your health and happiness,
Coach Matt
